Ever since I have started sharing my love for singing bowls with more people beyond my family, this is the question I get about 100% of the time from anyone who is remotely interested in sound healing. So I decided to write this out to the best of my knowledge and the process I followed to choose my singing bowls.

4 Best Tips to stay away from overwhelm while choosing a singing bowl

Let’s face it. Choosing your singing bowl can be an overwhelming process. Singing bowls have become the talk of the town and if you are an energy healer, coach, therapist or a yoga teacher or someone remotely interested in any of these and finding peace in your chaos, it is very much likely that you have thought of buying a singing bowl yourself.

Why are you overwhelmed while choosing your first singing bowl?

Here are 3 reasons why you may feel highly overwhelmed when taking the big step and purchasing your singing bowl.

  • There are a lot of singing bowls in the market. There are tons of suppliers and a ton of variety. You can feel lost like a kid in a candy shop while looking at singing bowls.
  • There are not so laymen terms thrown around by experts like frequency, pure tones, tibetan, crystal quartz, alchemy, healing grade, not healing grade, practitioner, etc that you may not be familiar with at all.
  • The singing bowls tend to be pricey so you want to make sure that you buy the right one for the right price in case you cannot afford to buy too many or replace a bad one.

4 Best Tips to choose your first singing bowl minus the overwhelm.

If you follow these 10 Tips, you will not go wrong in your precious first purchase of a singing bowl. These worked for me, and I know that these tips will work for anyone who is just starting out in sound healing.

Tip 1: Involve an expert in your decision of purchasing your first singing bowl

My first singing bowl was a tiny metallic (brass) singing bowl that can be used in personal meditation but not exactly for a sound bath or healing. But then, I did not know much about sound baths or sound healing and I was mostly satisfying  my curiosity. This bowl is great for satisfying curiosity but not much beyond that in my opinion.

As I started learning about singing bowls. I got help from my mentors for choosing the perfect bowls for me. I suggest that this is one of the best routes to go through.

Tip 2: Know your why

When you know why you are purchasing a singing bowl, it really gets easy to ask or even google the right questions.

For example, if you are purchasing a singing bowl for self healing, I would recommend buying a healing grade Tibetan bowl that is medium in size (about 7 inches) as your starting bowl. If you are purchasing a singing bowl for meditation and peace, I would recommend buying an 8 inch or larger crystal quartz singing bowl from TopFund. If you are looking for using sound as a practice to heal spaces in your home, I would actually recommend something other than a sound bowl. I would recommend using these 4 directions Koshi chimes. If you wanted to use a bowl along with your yoga classes, I would recommend buying Quartz crystal bowls. If you wanted to use singing bowls along with massage or a sound healing chakra therapy, I would recommend purchasing Tibetan bowls.

Tip 3: Take a chakra quiz

What has a chakra quiz got to do with purchasing singing bowls? Chakra knowledge and sound healing go hand in hand. Sound healing is used extensively to balance chakras. If you know what chakra you need to work on the most, a sound bowl that corresponds to that chakra would be a great start. I started my collection with a Topfund Root Chakra bowl. One of my friends and clients and students, was to work with sacral and throat chakra. So she started with a sacral bowl first. As much as there is a specific bowl for each chakra, to start with you can use one bowl and your intention to heal and strengthen your chakras. The intention is the most important.

Tip 4: Make sure the bowl resonates for a long time before it stops

The easiest way to make sure that the bowl you purchased does not need to be returned is to ring it and then leave it and see how long it can vibrate on its own. A good bowl will vibrate longer before it completely shuts down. When you buy in person, this is a good way to check the bowl. When you buy online, I prefer buying from Amazon.com because I can return very easily if I am not satisfied with my purchase.

The Last Thing You Need to Know about purchasing your first singing bowl

Remember, you are purchasing something new and are getting acquainted with a new art. Be patient with yourself and your purchase. Instead of feeling overwhelmed with many options, turn inwards towards your intuition and go with your gut feeling. What does your intuition tell you about the product? Does it make you feel great? Does it make you feel like you want to learn more about it? Does sound healing draw you in? For me, I am completely enchanted with singing bowls and they keep drawing me in so I know that I am being led on a path. Maybe for you, it is the same or maybe it is just a curiosity . Whatever it is, just follow that and you will make the best out of your purchase.
